A good future needs a good planning

" Planning helps people manage their time and focus better on their priorities. My job is to design a customizable digital planner in this personal project."

Problem and Solution

Problem and Solution

Many people use planning for they everyday tasks or for achieving a desired goal. Most of them can't do the planning on their mind or they don't always have access to paper. So, a customized digital planner that save their time and fit their habits is all they need.

Process

Understand the users
I asked people to share their habits and frustrations in planning. I asked them  about not only their past experience in using physical and digital planners but also their ideal planner format. To my suprise, People have very different planning habits. I incorporated the insights into the user persona.

Paper First

The process began with sketching simple wireframes then moved to high-fidelity prototype. In this paper version, you can see how I approach solving the user's needs. There are sections showing everyday tasks in customized lists. You can also see a graph, a calendar and a special page for long-term goals.

From Paper to Digital

I then brought my idea to an interactive digital mid-fidelity and brought it to five potential users to collect feedbacks.

Usability Testing

I conducted a user testing session on five participants. I then took the responses through a card sorting exercise to improve and modify my work.

I made 4 major changes based on the user feedback.

1. Selecting the desired appearance

Originally, users can only have their planner with the default appearance. Now, they can select their favorite theme and colors.

2. Making lists

Originally, users have the option for setting their short-term and long-term goals. Now they can use the same page for making their lists like "Shopping list".

3. Priority Option

Originally, users see their tasks in no order. Now, the prioritized tasks come on top of the list.

4. Developing new habits

Based on the users feedback, an option for developing new habits is so useful. So, now they can follow their progression on a calendar.
